"During this event, we come together to talk about not only the roles of Sisters, but the roles of women, and how we can make our world a better place for all" said Sister Phyllis Manda, Federation Executive Director. "We will explore new ways of furthering our mission as we move into the future together."
Sound the Trumpets begins on Saturday, June 24th with a reception and Opening Ceremonies. On Sunday June 25th, Dr. Maria Harris, author of Jubilee Time, and Dance of the Spirit will address the gathering. Following her presentation, the Sisters will hold a public witness outside the Adam's Mark Hotel. The prayer will focus on erasing violence and dismantling racism and discrimination.
On Monday, the Sisters will have their choice of 17 different focus sessions; covering topics such as homelessness, eco-spirituality, justice, healthcare, non-violence, welfare and Catholic education.
One speaker will be Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking and member of CSJ Medaille. She will share her experiences with death row inmates and victims' families.
On Tuesday, June 27, the Sisters will gather to hear keynote speaker Sister Patricia Byrne's discussion on the heritage of the foundation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. That evening, they will attend their 350th Anniversary celebration, complete with a banquet and entertainment.
